10-04-2026 - Toblerone chocolate cuts the iconic Matterhorn logo from its packaging due to ‘Swissness’ laws. Apparently, the Swiss government says that the chocolate is not "Swiss" enough for Toblerone to use the Matterhorn emblem and other Swiss references. Maybe the Extra Income Mail Order industry needs to enact legislation prohibiting the not-so-accurate "100% Commission" claims (keep the $10 but send me the 10 stamps) that make the rounds.

10-04-2026 - Mail Order Dealer Website Idea #13 - Email Adsheet - Use one of your hosting account's email addresses to create an email adsheet. Don't try this with a Gmail, Outlook, or Yahoo email address; you'll look like you're working out of the public library! One idea is a "progressive" adsheet. Such an advertiser could hold 100 ads. The newest ad goes to the top and the oldest ad falls off the list. So a dealer emails you an ad. You add it to the top of the ads and email the updated ads back to the dealer, along with payment instructions. There is no conventional circulation. Instead, each dealer's ad rotates through 100 positions. This means at least 100 dealers will receive that ad over time. Free sample copies provide additional exposure. This is just an idea. Create a publication that works for you.

10-03-2026 - Here's an interesting tidbit today. The restaurant in the movie "Office Space" was named Chotchkie's. The manager was very concerned about the amount of "flair" on Jennifer Aniston's uniform. The restaurant's name was a play on the actual word "tchotchkes," which means "a small object that is decorative rather than strictly functional; a trinket." I know all of you home-based cubicle workers have seen Office Space!

10-03-2026 - You’re a finalist in the Cadillac Escalade Giveaway! That’s what the full-color circular said. How can I be a finalist if I’ve never entered anything related to a Cadillac? The full-color, shiny sales circular had the usual photos of things most people will never see. Another mailing included two nicely printed sales circulars for two programs or something. I didn’t read the circulars, but I’m always glad to see people mailing clean, crisp sales material. Send me some real products and services. That’s what I want!

10-03-2026 - It was the middle of Summer at Fort Hood, Texas. I had the all-night CQ (Charge of Quarters) duty. The "Big Wheels" were about to show up for work, so I made sure they had coffee ready. I took the coffee pot - one of those 20+ cup jobs - outside and filled it up using the water hose. The same water hose that had been sitting in the sun every day. I made the coffee. The "Big Wheels" arrived. The First Sergeant properly relieved me of duty. As I headed back to my barracks, I heard, "Who made this #@$!&*! coffee? I picked up the pace.

10-03-2026 - In the news - Ohio truck plant closes, Men are losing ground in the labor market, Falling wages, soaring energy prices and inflation, Consumer optimism slides to lowest since 2014, NJ USPS driver charged with DWI after postal van strikes parked car in Morris County, USPS hosting largest processing plant hiring effort in more than a decade.

Mail Order Dealer Website Idea #12 - Review Site - Do you remember "Stew's Reviews," a column by Stew Caverly? It ran regularly in a few of the larger Mail Order advertising publications. Stew invited Mail-Order Dealers to send him a sample of whatever they were promoting, and he'd share his thoughts on selected submissions in his column. Stew's column has been gone for some time, and I don't think anyone has filled that void. You could fill that void with a dedicated website, or a portion of a website.

10-03-2026 - Good Morning! It’s Saturday, and it’s also National Boyfriend Day, National Techies Day, National No Sugar Day, Mean Girls Day, World Card Making Day, National Mead Day, Buy British Day, and Frugal Fun Day. I mowed half of my lawn yesterday, and I might do a little more today. I hear a local group of Amateur (ham) Radio Operators chatting as they make head to a restaurant for a weekly informal breakfast. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready. UPDATE: I mowed the rest of the yard.

10-02-2026 - Have you been around long enough to remember those huge cash deposits you had to leave to rent a movie video? One place in my city charged a $50 deposit per video. That put a damper on those folks wanting to binge several movies! Those were the days.

10-02-2026 - Do you remember when some dealers would accuse others of hiding behind a P.O. Box instead of using a "real" address? The days of hiding ended not long after 9/11. Have you seen the identification hoops you have to jump through to get a P.O. Box now? You now need (1) a primary form of identification that includes a clear photograph of the individual bearer and (2) a secondary form of identification, such as a lease, mortgage, or deed of trust, voter or vehicle registration card, or home or vehicle insurance policy. So, stop looking down on those who use a P.O. Box.
